Pilates is a very complex system of exercises and techniques. We have the classical repertoire which are the the exercices created by Joseph Pilates. A very well structures sequence that works the whole body. And then there is the more modern/ contemporary Pilates where you incorporate the methods and techiques in various movements that don´t obligatory follow the Classical Repetoire.
The method and techiques you use to move the Pilates way are the foundation of the benefits of Pilates.
Pilates is a whole body fitness that also works with mind / body connection bringin more awareness to the movement. This on its hand works like meditation and can eventually lower anxiety, help with sleep, boost immune system.
Pilates creates strenght, makes muscles leaner and helps with flexibility. Practicing Pilates regulary can improve your core strenght and help you recover from injury, pregnancy and delivery. Pilates method is adaptable to many needs and fitness levels. You can use the program to strengthen your body for other sports you may be practicing - golf, running, padel, intesntive trainings, basketball and football. Pilates exercises are great to build up flexibility and work on mobility of joints which will prevent from injuries. Pilates makes muscles leaner and longer and helps expand range of motion within the joints.
Another important benefit of Pilates is that it helps with core muscles of the body which are the deep muscles of the back, abdomen, and pelvic floor. We rely on these muscles to support a strong, supple back, good posture, and efficient movement patterns.
When our core is strong, the frame of the body is supported. Our neck and shoulders can relax, and the rest of our muscles and joints are free to do their jobs (but don't have to do more). A nice side benefit is that core training promotes flat abs, Pilates can help you learn how to pull your abs in.
One of the most known benefit is that Pilates improves posture. Good posture is supported by good alignment which is reflection of a strong body and core. So practicing regulary Pilates you will notice that you can now hold your chest open and your spine long, shoulders won´t be rounded, because now your muscles can support that. Best thing about Pilates is that you can do it anywhere anytime. You can work on your posture even sitting on your desk at the office.
On of th things I love most about Pilates that the small things make such a big difference. In Pilates we learn how to isolate the movements, which will improve your concentration, mobility and will work on muscles you never knew existed. With the method you will learn that your mind actually send commands to your body what to do and how to move and not the other way around.
Pilates will make your mind more aware of your body and what is best for it. Pilates will open you a door for better you, happier you. You will be more energetic, more mindful and healthier.
